The Aims and objectives of Free Funeral Services Society - F.F.S.S (Yangon)- are ....

         The Free Funeral Services Society - F.F.S.S - (Yangon) is a welfare organization operating mostly with the contributions of the well-wishers locally and from abroad. Under the guidance of the founder U Thu Kha, this organization’s first priority is to help the bereaved families with the free funeral services, so as to somehow relief the burdens and sorrows during the time of losing their loved-ones. Setting aside the prejudices and superstition, the devoted members of the organization voluntarily give their services selflessly to the funeral services of anyone rich or poor, of any religion, free of charge.

         After three years of performing free funeral services to the public, the goodwill members of the Free Funeral Services Society (F.F.S.S) extends it’s charitable and noble deeds towards caring of the ailing people. Therefore, the purpose of this organization is not only to render services for the dead but also to assist the living ones as well. More Photo Gallery Thus, the Medical Aid Committee became an affiliate of Free Funeral Services Society (F.F.S.S) with the aim to help ailing people with monetary aids as well as the expertise treatments in various health problems.

         As this Free Funeral Services Society (F.F.S.S) has broaden its charitable tasks and programs to many sectors, a permanent venue with appropriate offices and its buildings at a chosen site, became an important issue. Thus, its priority is to accumulate contributions for the construction of buildings, which can be considered as an immediate objective of the Free Funeral Services Society - F.F.S.S - (Yangon).





The Free Funeral Service Yangon (FFSS) renders the following services free of charge to anyone seeking help , concerning funeral services.

It can help the following categories during the funeral rite:

(1) Conveying the body of the departed from home or hospital to the respective assigned mortuary with the organization hearses .

(2) Contributing the charges up to two days, for keeping the body at the mortuary and the cost of cremation.

(3) Hiring of the glass coffin or providing the disposable stretcher like receptacle with aluminum lid for the body, up till cremation is completed.

(4) Performing the "Sarana gamana" (a sort of holy funeral ritual with the monks participating), on request by the members of the deceased.

More Photo Gallery          At the moment , there are three specially decorated and gifted hearses , which are donated by Ko Banya's family from Japan, and are used on special arrangements for funeral services of Buddhist monks, elderly persons of ages over eighty (octogenarians and above) and well known figures of any religion.

         There are only two hearses at the time the society was first formed. Now thirteen hearses including three specially decorated hearses are being used regularly. Over the period of seven years 68719 - funerals services (from 1-1-2001 to 31-12-2008) has been rendered for the public, free of charge by this organization.

         The Free Funeral Services Society - F.F.S.S (Yangon) was formed with the guidance of a highly esteemed writer & movie director U Thukha, honorary D.Litt.It was formed on the 1st January 2001 at Brama-Vihara Pariyatti Sarthindaik, 16/2 ward, Thingangyun Township.

         The chief monk of that monastery (where Buddhist Scriptures are taught to monks), Maha Saddhama Jotika Venerable Sayadaw Bhaddanta Ottra provided the society with a place at his monastery to establish temporary headquarters. Though the activities were started in May 2000, the first practical assistance came into function only on the 1st of January 2001. (1-1-2001)

         when it was able to render its services at the funeral of a very famous sculptor U Han Tin. The first person to drive the hearse of the Free Funeral Services Society - F.F.S.S - (Yangon) at that funeral was the academy award winner and director (U) Kyaw Thu.
